On June 28 2015, the Filipino Catholic Community in The Hague hosted its annual summertime event. Now on its 5th year, the FCC Fun Day had drawn many people to the Westbroek Park in Scheveningen by early Sunday afternoon. Rain shower did not stop the participants from crawling, jumping, skipping and rolling as they competed for team building activities and race games.
FCC Fun Day is typically held at a large outdoor venue where multiple activities from team building to race games are being held at the same location. Four teams, composed of kids and adults, compete for this annual event. This Fun Day aims to bring the community members and its friends together and to inculcate desirable values such as leadership, team work and mutual support among children and adults. Eventually, this event brings an opportunity to meet old friends and new acquaintances.
This year’s event presented a fun-filled community day which included the time-pressured team building activities - pyramid building, spider web, mine field and fill up the barrel. The teams’ intensity and enthusiasm was evident during the race games which included the hula hoop transfer, bottle relay, big groundhog and conveyor belt. The crowd, engaged in an enthusiastic cheering, ignited excitement and passion among the players during the volleyball game, Fun slang, sack race and tug of war.
Throughout the day there was a palpable sense of determination among the participants all eager to bag this year’s best team award. The Green team bagged the first place while Red team took the second place. Yellow team and Orange team finished third and fourth respectively. This event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of many individuals in the community under the leadership of the FCC The Hague core group.
FCC The Hague has been active since 2001 in its mission of nurturing its members in a deeper commitment to our Lord with His Church. The conduct of masses on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month has been the community’s tool for spiritual enrichment and renewal. FCC The Hague provides that avenue where everyone is welcome to grow and be nurtured socially and spiritually through its community masses, religious and social activities.
