Filipino Educators Organization Slates 2015 Annual Teachers Conference

The Philippine Teachers Association of Canada ( PTAC)  will conduct its 9th yearly conference on October 17th, 2015, Saturday, 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at the The Hub, 550 Finch Avenue West corner Bathurst Road, North York, Toronto. The complimentary event is being held in partnership with Kababayan Multicultural Centre ( KMC).

With this year's  theme "Professional Development and Challenges for Filipino Teachers in Ontario Schools" , the seminar topics during the conference include : "Impact of New Teacher Education Program for International Trained Teachers", " Social Media In Education", " Progressive Discipline in Ontario Classrooms", "Navigating the Teacher Certification Process " and "Technology Addiction: Symptoms and Solutions".

Invited speakers and presenters are  an officer of the Ontario College of Teachers and notable education professionals in Ontario including  experienced Filipino Canadian teachers in Catholic & public school boards. The resource speakers are expected to share their insights, advice and knowledge with focus on new professional requirements, strategies and expectations impacting internationally -educated Filipino teachers.

PTAC , organized in 2006, is composed of Ontario-licensed and practicing teachers in the province's publicly-funded schools  as well as former education professionals from the Philippines. Its long-time conference partner, KababayanMulticultural Services is a 38- year non-profit community- based provider of immigrants' settlement, training and integrated assistance services.

Organizers of the professional development activity include Boni Curutan, Perly Laganas, Maricon Bernasor, Bernadette Gapuz, Red Andres, Cielito Drapeza, Marissa Ciacico,Trina Andres, Mila Curutan, Grace Dela Reyna, Rowell Perez and other PTAC officers and members. From KMC, Flor Dandal, Jelbert Real, Aguido Dela Cruz, Amy Basingan , Loida Gatchalian and some community volunteers are jointly  engaged in the conference preparations too.

Internationally-trained teachers, especially those seeking Ontario teacher certification, PTAC members and other interested participants are requested, since seating is limited, to register for the event on a first-come, first- served basis.
