Last Saturday, January 16th, the Ateneo Alumni Association Canada (AAAC) gathered for their annual general meeting at the residence of Luthello and Emily Penaflor in Maple, Ontario.

After a filling lunch and catching up with fellow members, the board of directors reviewed the past year’s events, in particular the Association’s milestone 20th Anniversary celebration, discussed their successes, areas of opportunity, and future plans. Afterwards, nominations for the next set of directors took place and the ones with the most votes chose among themselves which position they will undertake.

The newly-elected officers for 2016-2017 are as follows:

Chairman – Reynaldo Reyes (Ateneo de Manila)

Vice Chairman – Bill Quebral (Ateneo de Zamboanga)

Treasurer – Jose Gutierrez (Ateneo de Naga)

Assistant Treasurer – Luthello Peñaflor (Ateneo de Naga)

Secretary – Floro Dabu., Jr. (Ateneo de Naga and Ateneo de Manila)

Assistant Secretary – Medy Chua (Ateneo de Naga)

Press Relations Officer - Bernie Sychangco (Ateneo de Manila)

Sergeant at Arms – Ed Doroja (Ateneo de Zamboanga)

Auditor – Robert Chua

This will be Reynaldo Reyes’ third term as the Chairman of the AAAC. “This will be a team effort for the next two years, and I am confident that we will always be there to help each other,” Reynaldo said.

Among the  projects lined up for this year are:

1.)  the Spring Dance to be held on April 2, 2016 at the North Thornhill Community Centre,

2.) the Summer Picnic/Sportsfest with other Philippine Schools and Universities, and

3.) the Annual Scholarship Dinner Dance to be held on October 22, 2016 also at the North Thornhill Community Centre.

Proceeds from fund raising will be used to fund scholars in Ateneo schools in the Philippines, of which there are now 22 scholars, including one new scholar each from the Ateneo de Naga and the Ateneo de Zamboanga.
