LOVE TRANSCENDS TIME

In the case of our featured lovebirds, Denis and Vilma, they met about eight years ago at a party. Weekend parties across the globe is as important as gurgling Listerine before a date. For newcomers like Vilma in Canada, a party invitation is a privilege. Some people, they want to go to a bar in the hope of finding someone that 'click' right away or has some X factor to ignite a relationship. Private parties are safer, because everyone knows each other or, as social media dictates, they are friends of a friend. There is also a sense of security being with fellow Filipinos because there is guarantee nobody opens up a pill and drop it in your glass while you are dancing the Saturday Night Fever and go gaga on the floor.

And this is how a romance started when somebody played Cupid between Denis and Vilma on the onset. Although the strategy was old and repetitive as the friend who was supposed to drive her home can't make it on the wheels. Who else would offer Vilma a drive home but Denis? Call it destiny or fate intertwined together.

It's always a 'guy thing' to have the best shot at a lady to be given that opportunity to drive her home especially when one is looking for love. It's similar to owning a fancy sportscar and yet you can't shove a nice lady inside for a heartstopping ride. Something must be very wrong because, dating does not just happened on Valentine's day. It happens all the time and it should happen all the time because love keep us alive and hopeful.

Call it a 'whirlwind' romance that was destined to drag on for eight wonderful years of knowing each other. In love, there is that mysterious and mystifying trance of being pulled towards the person that let your heart beat again. On the next day after Denis drove Vilma home came a call for a movie date. How one lady not felt so anxious in such a fast unfolding of events? A movie? A date? When one hardly knew each other?

Vilma was obliged and met up with Denis for a movie. I forgot to ask during this segment of my interview if what movie they were supposed to watch. I guess that date wasn't actually focused on the movie. It was more of deepening a relationship that has just started because Denis brought her two sons on that date. In my perspective, it was pretty much a noble gesture for a father to introduce his newfound friend Vilma to his sons. This is one approached of how pure Denis' intention was for Vilma; laying bare what he had in his life at the onset.

Relationships are strengthened by trust and honesty. It will become a pillar that can withstand the test of time. Those dates were followed many times over until a beautiful relationship came like a web of which both of them can't escape. "He is very patient..." quipped Vilma when asked what drawn her to Denis. "It is his sense of maturity and understanding that floats in his character." A beaming bride to be smiled in such a way that reveals her utmost respect to her "Knight in shining armour" comes August 20th 2016 as they are preparing for their wedding.

"We put a timeframe in our relationship. Five years of sticking together and we're off to tie the knot." Vilma said it from the depthness of her heart with no trace of such well prepared script for an expected interview. The look in her eyes reveals a woman wrapped in love and security of a formidable man such as Denis. There is that aura on her face that radiates an emotion of pure contentment and the ability of passing the bar of differences as Denis is not a Filipino. Two people destined to build a new chapter of mixed union where two people conquered and closes the gap between two differing worlds.

As the date of their much awaited wedding approaches, the preparations are also grinding full speed for August to stand witness to a union that seems and enduring and true...because it is a love affair that came unexpectedly and passionate.

For now, Vilma and Denis are sure to take a quick respite for Cupid to swing his arrows once more on Valentine's day where love hovers over them in unison with the unfaltering rhythm of their heartbeats soon to be one.

Happy Valentine's Day!
