FilCan Catholic Parents Elect 2016-2017 Officers, Paulina Corpuz is New President

The Filipino Canadian Parents Association in Catholic Education ( FCPACE), during its general meeting on March 31, 2016 elected a new slate of 23 officers and directors for the 2016-2017 term. FCPACE  is composed of Filipino parents and guardians of children who are  studying and / or have studied at  Catholic secondary and elementary schools in Toronto. Ontario.

Among those chosen for a 2- year term are : President-Paulina Corpuz, Executive Vice President - Manuel M. Ching, Vice President- Joseph Redoblado, Secretary - Ruth Oliveros, Asst. Secretary - Jerrilyn Garcia , Treasurer- Marla Tanuan, Asst. Treasurer-Christine Manrique , Auditor- Michele Serrano, Business Manager - Maria Guiao , Public Relations Officer - Ronnie Dela Gana and Directors : Joey Abrenilla, Myrna Alforte, Nilo Ang, Rose Apilado, Therese Baduria, Randy Bucao, Cielito Drapeza, Francisco Galema,  Perly Laganas, Manny Lim, Joel Pine , Jun Saludares and Tony A. San Juan.

Formed in November 2013, FCPACE is a not-for- profit, volunteer run organization with a vision and mandate  to "lead and have a unified voice  representing and advocating Catholic Education for responsible and continued formation and preservation of authentic Catholic Faith among students, parents, families and communities within the Catholic education system and Canadian society in General" . Its Christ-centred motto is : Faith ((Paniniwala), Family ( Pamilya) and Formation( Pagkakasatuparan).

One of its upcoming major events is the holding of the Second Annual Conference of Catholic Parents, Students and Teachers on May 14, 2016, Saturday at the Catholic Education Centre, TCDSB, 80 Sheppard Avenue, North York Toronto. The free whole day event will have as its 2016 theme : "Enhancing Parent Engagement and Community Involvement" with 4 major topics in group  sessions. The parent- led discussions aim to determine and recommend effective practices and procedures for parents in helping students  achieve school success and well- being . 

In 2014, FCPACE was able to work successfully towards the formation of a pivotal Filipino Advisory Committee (F.A.C.) in the Toronto Catholic District School Board-TCDSB.  FAC is now officially  serving as an advisory body on matters impacting  Filipino students and parents in the school system. Also in 2015, the Association conducted productively its first parent- centred conference on "Meeting the Challenges of  Filipino Catholic Parents and  Students"  with a focus on determining issues and concerns affecting student performance and academic success. ( T.
