RIYADH: Out of 1,436 abstract submitted during the World Congress on Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (WCO) held in Florence, Italy, a Filipino young doctor – Dr. Shaun Sabico, working at King Saud University (KSU) emerged as the winner of the prestigious 2017 ESCEO-IOF Young Investigator Award. Dr. Sabico is the Chief Editor of the Prince Mutaib Chair for Biomarkers of Osteoporosis (PMCO) at KSU, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The award, selected among thousands of entries submitted, is the largest ever-recorded in the history of the congress, which is also the biggest clinical and research gathering in the field.

A multi-awarded Filipino young professional, Dr. Sabico was also a recipient of the 2016 Eli Lilly Scholarship Award given in Malaga, Spain. Adding up to his countless achievements, he is currently a 4th year Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Sciences in Warwick University, United Kingdom.

The WCO-IOF-ESCEO is an annual global event in Europe attended by thousands of scientists and physicians in the fields of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal diseases. IOF also conducts regional conferences in the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific. (Marlon B. Vicente, an OFW freelance writer and event host. E-mail at ).
