NYPAA Holds 2016 Officers Induction and Spring Dance

The quintessential Filipino Canadian community amateur sports organization in Ontario, the North York Pinoy Athletic Association (NYPAA) celebrated the onset of spring with a successful fundraising dinner- dance fling. The parents volunteer - run group productively conducted its 2016 officers and directors induction event on April 9, 2016 at the Our Lady of The Assumption Parish Hall, North York, Toronto.

With more than 250 guests, members, players and supporters in attendance, they witnessed the oath-taking of the Association's new executive officers and board members for the 2016-2017 term. Ms. Agnes Miranda, executive director of World Financial Group-Canada (WFG), officiated the swearing -in ceremony and also gave an inspirational speech. The Honourable Michael Levitt, Member of Parliament for York Centre, graced the occasion and delivered a well-applauded congratulatory speech and greetings.

Among those inducted to office for a 2-year  term were: President – Sharonne Columbano, Vice President – Mylene Escalona, Secretary – Brenda Agoncillo, Asst. Secretary – Arlyn Perez, Treasurer – Joanne Ligsay, Sports Commissioner – Renato Columbano, Asst. Sports Commissioner – Mark Victoria, Youth Sports Development – Victor Montero, Website moderator – Arnel Dipaling, Director – Ed Sotto, Director – Vilma Tahsin, Director – Bob San Juan, Director – Roger Tarca, Adviser – Tim Sinclair, Adviser – Christina Fernandez and Immediate Past President & Adviser – Jimi Fernandez.

Ably hosted by community leader Randy Bucao of Pinoy Radio Station, the highly entertaining evening's program included: the singing of national anthems by the NYPAA kids, invocation by Arnel Dipaling, slide show presentation, special presentation & performances by Nicole Cebuano, Kayumanggi Dance Troupe, Hawaiian dance by Elaine Columbano & Calya David, and closing remarks by Prexy Sharonne Columbano. The 5- hour gathering was highlighted with Chelsea’s Filipino Cuisine- catered sumptuous dinner, parent- prepared desserts, line-and-ballroom dancing, raffle prizes draw, fellowship & bantering, and posterity photo shoots & selfies.
Those who joined in as special guests were : Ms. Conida Haley, Miss Philippines PIDC-2015 & her lovely Mom, Dan Lovell -MP M. Levitt's executive assistant, Maureen Simpson & Daisy Stone of Antibes C.C., Verth Bugtong of Guimbanian Association, William Marasigan, Edgar Tojino & Matt Memita of Bayanihan, Noel & Jackie Buenaventura of MYAA, Dome & Linda Florido of Maharlika, Mike Cruz of Durham Crossover, Ruben & Bing Moga, Gil & Ditas Biado of Barangay Tanduay, Tyler Hughes, Jun Sapico and other notable community sports leaders.

The 16-year old not-for-profit organization is a member of the North American Basketball Association (NABA) and has been sponsoring and supporting amateur basketball competitions and clinics and participating in numerous city and inter-city tournaments in Canada and the USA since 2005.
