The American Southwest - from California to Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah

A few years ago, I wrote an MN Travelogue about our tour of the American West, with Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming as our farthest destination. This year, we took a tour of the American Southwest, a region of the United States which roughly covers southeastern California, the southern tip of Nevada, the entire state of Arizona, western New Mexico, southwestern Colorado, and southern Utah. The predominantly desert area has colorful landscape and breathtaking views. We went on our road tour in early June, before it got unbearably hot in some parts.

VIETNAM-“Chaotic” experience in Hanoi’s traffic and cruising pristine Ha Long Bay

My brother Danny’s wife Cindy planned and arranged our first trip to Northern Vietnam months in advance. Danny, Cindy, my sisters Chi and Quiding, Quiding’s husband Eddie, and I took an early morning flight from Manila to Hanoi via Singapore. It was dark by the time we set out from Noi Bai International Airport to our lodging at Hanoi’s French Quarter. The modern airport was not very busy. And neither was the highway leading out of the airport. The smooth highway traffic near the airport belied the heavy traffic we encountered as soon as we entered Hanoi.

Last July, my brother Wilfredo (Sonny to the family) Eddie and I joined a package tour of Krolewskie Miasto Krakao, known to English-speaking nations as Krakow. The bus trip started early in the morning. After a full day trip across Germany, we reached Chemnitz in the eastern part of country where we spent the night.

It was my first time in the southern hemisphere. The month was February, summertime down under. Rico Enriquez and his wife Frieda, my sister-in-law Cindy’s sister, were our gracious hosts in Sydney.

THE BEST OF SPAIN

My sister Quiding and her husband Eddie in the Netherlands arranged our bus tour of Spain through their favorite tried-and-true Netherlands-based tour operator Peter Langhout. The bus picked us up at their house. The other passengers seemed amused as one by one our international group of 14 came out of the house and boarded the bus. As Quiding finally locked the front door, the Dutch passengers must have wondered how we all fit in this one house. We wondered about that, too. All of us out-of-towners arrived in the Netherlands the previous week --- Cindy, Danny, Kaye, Bettina and Anna from the Philippines; Rico and Frieda from Australia; Arnel, Ginny, Boy, Teng and I from America.
I looked forward to our family’s tour of Spain for several reasons. It had been many years since the last time I visited the country.
