James Canlas is NCAA 95 Men’s Senior Top 5 Best after Round 1

Filipino Canadian James Canlas continues to make waves and a name for himself at the Philippine NCAA 95 Basketball Season by making it to the top five players of the league based on player’s average value (PAV) after the first round. The mythical group is currently paced by fellow Lion Calvin Oftana who had been playing impact basketball on his senior year. Evan Nelle, Donald Tankua and Jayvee Mareclino completes the top five.

James on his junior year has now adjusted to the Philippine type of basketball after his recruitment two years ago. He was initially spotted by local coaches when he led Crossover Canada contingent play at the prestigious SM NBTC National High School Championships at the Mall of Arena. He was courted then by National University, La Salle College of St. Benilde and San Beda University. Perseverance showed by SBU Team Manager Jude Roque for two years led to recruitment of James to the Lion’s den.

Other Fil Canadian players also playing in the Philippines includes Matthew Daves (Ateneo de Manila University), Evyn Santiago (Adamson University – Team B), Andre Cruz (San Beda Team Behold) and  AJ Perez (San Sebastian – Team B). Also making a name for herself is National University rookie Camille Clarin who also represented the Philippines National Team and won bronze at the recently conclude FIBA Asia 3x3.
