Silayan Community Centre, a respectable and pioneering entity always organizes a social function every 1st Saturday of the month. The Centre is where Filipino-Canadian elders and residents, mostly in downtown Toronto, meet together to celebrate life in Canada. The attendees certainly love dancing, eating Filipino & international cuisines and socializing, as well.

During the party, Sir Ben Ferrer celebrated his 78th birthday and retirement. He has been the head honcho of  Silayan Community Centre for seven years. The retiree, according to his well-wishers, exemplified the traits of a good community leader. Ben has served other community organizations over the years..... a phenomenal contribution and achievement, indeed.

Special event guest was Rosemer Enverga, widow of the late Canadian Senator Tobias Enverga, Jr.. Once again the  Alpha Phi Omega group including Brod Larry Receno, Sis Jewel Gomes, Sis. Emely Bernardino and Cherry Cabangcala helped organize the successful event. They volunteered to serve food to the Filipino elders and guests, set up the function room, arranged the tables and chairs and decorated the party room. It was certainly a gathering of memorable moments for all the participants and guests. ( Tony A. San Juan, OCT-Ret.)
