A bewildering ‘Saints & Sinners Fund-Raising Party’ of the Filipino Catholic Community of Rotterdam (FCCR) in the Netherlands

De Brinkhoeve, Poortugaal, The Netherlands
November 14, 2019

Mystifying! – The dance hall was full of so-called vampires, draculas, witches, angels and nuns.

It’s winter time in Europe! And although it means that we add an hour to our clock, which we in the beginning rejoice for having an extra hour of sleep, it also means that we are slowly ushered into the dark, wet, cold and freezing months of winter.

(Top left photo) Father Marcel, Father Urbanus and Father Chima - three priests who regularly perform masses in Slinge Church joined the fun and showed their dancing skills with FCCR’s Grace Cabactulan.

On the other hand, it makes a perfect stage for ‘ Saints & Sinners’ costume party.

Exactly what happened last November 6, 2019 at the Cultural Center de Brinkhoeve in Poortugaal during FCCR’s Fund Raising Evening. A lot of the guests were dressed in their Halloween costume, petrifying but impressive. Eye catching were the ladies proudly dressed as nuns, with their huge crosses hanging down their chests! Now we are talking saints!

“ Every Saint has a past…every sinner has a future .”- this food for thought from Oscar Wilde was the evening’s theme. It is something to think about. One thing for sure, we are all sinners and there is no exception to that.  Although dreaming of becoming a saint is a long shot,  we could at least try and remain on the good side.

To some guests, staying cool and being themselves means playing safe.

Having three priests around sure feels good. I mean considering the presence of the dark side – vampires, draculas, witches and frankenstein, we do need them around, just in case someone needs to be exorcised. Athough the good side has more power that night, there were a lot of nuns and angels around. But all in all, they all look extemely bewitching in their costumes.

FCCR’s special guest singer for the night is the beautiful Jojo van Oeveren. A Silver Medalist during the 2018 World Championship of Peforming Arts held in Long Beach California USA, her repertoire includes, jazz, pop and opera. Born and raised in Dauin Negros, she is one powerful performer.

It was a fantastic night of fun, prizes and dancing. Saints and sinners all hit the dancefloor and just swing it out altogether….all for a good cause. Nothing beats that!

Spicing up the evening aside from the tombola prizes was the special award to the Best in Costume Male and Best in Costume Female. It was not an easy task for our judge which was Jojo van Oeveren, the guest singer.

When the the came, there were two pairs of winners….Mr. Frankenstein and Lady Vampire as well as White Angel and Mr. Devil. Congratulations to the four of you!

A unique evening with some guests dancing with their black capes, wings and other paraphernalia, they look incredibly charming I must say.

A wickedly amazing FCCR Saints & Sinners Fund Raising Event that was.  Everybody had the utmost times of their lives and danced til the last music!

Filipino Catholic Community of Rotterdam (FCCR ) would like to thank all their sponsors, guests and everybody who joined and supported their cause…….

…………….once again THANK YOU and GOD bless you all !!!!
